Avançar was founded in 2017, as a non-profit organization aiming to expand the frontiers of knowledge through studies and researches concerning social policies in order to contribute to a better formulation of public policies.

As an initiative of a group of researchers of the University of São Paulo, its goal is to promote researches and impact assessments of social policies and specific programs in Early Childhood, Socio-emotional Development, School Management and Violence and Criminality.

The organisation has been developing partnerships with several renowned institutions of Brazil and abroad, either governmental and non-governmental, helping to take the results of scientific research to public managers, thus contributing to a higher qualification of services provided in the areas of health, education, social assistance, public security and justice.

Besides the unity in Ribeirão Preto, Avançar has expanded to Sobral, a middle size city in the state of Ceará, in the northeast of Brazil. Also, Avançar has a strong partenership with LEPES (Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas em Economia Social), a research group that studies Social Economy.
